Good vibrations

三月 21, 1997

Alumnus to be proud of No 94 can by contrast expect to be remembered for inducing the ruling that while you cannot bleep in the House of Commons, you can have a vibrator. Brian Wilson, Labour's rebutter-in-chief, outraged government MPs during prime minister's question time by receiving a message via his bleeper from his team at Millbank. When one Tory claimed to have been distracted by the bleep, the Speaker ruled that the fiendish objects were only admissible in the House if set to vibrate rather than bleep.

Mr Wilson attended Dundee University, but those interested in his tendency to obtain information from dubious sources will want to note his diploma from the Centre for Journalism Studies at the University of Wales, Cardiff.
