Fellowships of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama have been conferred on: Alan Duncan, business consultant, former managing director of the Duncan Group and governor of the academy since 1991; Michael Gaunt, principal designate of the Birmingham School of Speech and Drama and chairman of the Conference of Drama Schools; Robert Inglis, lecturer and senior lecturer at the academy for 30 years; Robert McCartney, front of house supervisor at the academy since 1987.

George Sutherland, who set up a new financial strategy at Edinburgh University, has been named public-sector finance director of the year in The Bank of Scotland awards.

Craig Williams, senior lecturer in the University of Wolverhampton's school of applied sciences, has been elected to the Royal Society of Chemistry.
