FP5 study course to examine innovative groundwater management in Europe

An advanced study course on 'Innovative management of groundwater resources in Europe,' funded under the Fifth EU Framework programme for research, FP5, will take place in Katowice, Poland, from 24 to 28 June 2002.

The course will be the first of a series of three courses from the training and RTD (research and technological development) project IMAGE-TRAIN. The course is targeted at junior scientists and young engineers. Between 35 and 40 participants will be selected according to the criteria set out in the application document.

The course lecturers will be taken from three research projects on innovative groundwater management technologies - PIRAMID, INCORE and PEREBAR. Key course topics will include human health risk assessment, groundwater risk assessment, groundwater modelling and social and economic aspects.

Participation in the course, which will include practical exercises and site excursions, will be free of charge.
