The National Assembly for Wales is to investigate establishing a second medical school campus for Wales. It is bidding for 100 of the government's 1,000 new medical student places.

It recognises that facilities at the College of Medicine in Cardiff are under strain and one possibility is to establish a second campus in Swansea.

Plaid Cymru Assembly member and GP Dai Lloyd, who proposed the campus in an assembly debate, said Wales was facing a doctor recruitment crisis. So far just 35 of the new places have been earmarked for Wales.
