* Student hardship is damaging academic success, two reports by the Further Education Funding Council have found. The Hardship of Learning found that college students' average annual income was Pounds 5,192 - with just 2 per cent made up of official support - while their expenditure was more than Pounds 6,000. Four out of five students worked throughout the year and many "suffered real hardship". A second report, Access Funding, calls for a radical reform of student support.
