Nobody who is any good lectures full time in information technology, computer studies, accountancy or law when they can make four times as much in commerce, Dudley South MP Ian Pearson, a former business and economic development consultant, told the House of Commons last week. He suggested universities should reject Bett committee calls for government cash and look to the private sector instead. Malcolm Wicks, minister for lifelong learning, said some universities could approach accountancy and IT employees to see if they wanted to teach part time. But he added: "Not everyone is motivated by money." Or so he hopes.
