Football club honoured

九月 24, 2004

Norwich City has become the first football club to receive an honorary degree.

The honorary doctorate of civil law from East Anglia University was conferred on the club at half-time in the Canaries' home game against Aston Villa last Saturday. Fans were treated to the sight of David Eastwood, the vice-chancellor, and other university officials, on the pitch in full academic regalia.

Roger Munby, the club chairman, hailed it as a tribute to the whole club.

It is the third honorary degree that the UEA has conferred on an organisation rather than an individual, the other two recipients were Comic Relief in 2001 and the Big C cancer charity in 2003.
