Flag it up

These paper flags, made from the pages of books, are the work of Jon Adams, artist-in-residence at the University of Portsmouth. They were planted en masse at the university as part of a public art project coordinated by Mr Adams, who asked members of the public across the country to join in by erecting paper flags in gardens, parks and beaches. His aim, he said, was to create a "unique countrywide artwork by making the largest, the smallest or the most unusually placed field of flags". Participants were asked to take photos of their efforts, and the best and most unusual "plantings" will feature in the autumn on the BBC's Big Screens digital-video displays across the country.
