Hertford College, University of Oxford

The following have been elected to honorary fellowships of the college: David Daniell, emeritus professor in the University of London, associate member of the senior common room of the college and honorary member of the senior common room of Magdalen College, Oxford; David Waddington, governor and commander in chief of Bermuda since 1992 and life peer, leader of the House of Lords (1990-92), parliamentary secretary to the Treasury and government chief whip (1987-89), secretary of state to the Home Office (1983-87).

Institute of Linguistics

Stephen Hagen, dean of the school of languages and European studies at the University of Wolverhampton and a member of the editorial board of The Linguist, has been elected an honorary fellow of the institute.

Huntington Library

Glenn Burgess, reader in the department of history at the University of Hull, has been appointed Mayers fellow at the library, San Marino, California.
