Fee-paying parents 'should get tax breaks'

Tax breaks for parents who pay tuition fees should be considered alongside legislation to compel parents to pay, according to members of the Aldwych Group, which represents the student unions of elite Russell Group institutions.

University chiefs will not be covering all the options for the funding of higher education when they consider the London Economics report published by Universities UK, according to members of the group.

Hamish Common, president of Imperial College student union and co-chair of the Aldwych Group, said: "There should have been options taken from the student viewpoint."
