EU urges policy change

Diverging national policies on biotechnology and life sciences could see Europe fall behind the rest of the world in its bid to become a leading knowledge economy. A European Commission report calls for more research, more financial resources and a community patent to ensure that the European Union does not find itself dependent on technology developed elsewhere.
