Unbridled pursuit of the knowledge economy can clash with the values of scholarship that should underpin universities, Bart McGettrick, dean of the University of Glasgow's faculty of education, has warned.
In his keynote address at this week's gathering of the International Federation of Catholic Universities in Fremantle, Western Australia, Professor McGettrick said: "A philosophy of education that does not celebrate variety and plurality of ideas and views based on truth and integrity is doomed to academic heresy and intellectual bankruptcy."
