Dr No? No, Dr Bond

His name was Varma, Sushant Varma, but not any more: it's Bond, James Bond. Race campaigner Dr Varma - or Dr Bond as he now wishes to be known - has changed his name by deed poll to that of the quintessentially British spy in protest at what he claims is the institutionalised race discrimination pervading British medical education. Dr Bond first came to The THES 's attention in 2001 when he invented fictional job applicants for a post at Sheffield Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Despite near-identical CVs, the candidate with the English-sounding name got an interview, while one with a name suggesting Indian origins did not.
