Doctors unprepared

More than 40 per cent of newly qualified doctors say that their medical training did not prepare them for work as a pre-registration house officer, a study by Oxford researchers published in the British Medical Journal says this week. The authors point out that since the survey, of nearly 3,500 doctors who graduated from UK medical schools in 1999 and 2000, many medical schools have placed a greater emphasis on practical experience.
