The following awards are being offered:
1. Two Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics Trust/Digestive Disorders Foundation joint training fellowships for research into aspects of the aetiology, pharmacology or therapy, and possibly pathogenesis, of gastrointestinal disease. The awards are for two years to cover the cost of a full-time salary (up to that of specialist registrar grade for medical graduates) and are designed to provide medical or science graduates with training in research methods. A total of £5,000 will be available to cover research expenses. Whilst it is anticipated that the research will be undertaken in the UK, applications from candidates currently living outside the UK are welcome.
2. One Nutritional Research Foundation fellowship for research into nutritional aspects of gastroenterology. The award is for two years to cover a full-time salary (up to specialist registrar grade) and will provide a medically-qualified graduate with training in research methods.
3. Travel Grants. The Digestive Disorders Foundation and Schering Plough provide small grants (in the range of £500 to £2,000) for overseas travel to research workers in gastroenterology who wish to further their own work by discussion with others, or to learn new techniques. Grants will not be given for attendance at medical meetings.
