Deian Hopkin marks retirement

四月 23, 2009

Deian Hopkin marked his retirement from London South Bank University with a shuffle and a bop, playing his way out on the piano.

Accompanied by leading jazz musicians, the vice-chancellor played an impromptu gig at the university's students' union.

With Tony Reeves on bass guitar and Kylie Minogue's drummer Gary O'Toole, Professor Hopkin tinkled the ivories through some classic jazz numbers. Australian vocalist Simone Craddock joined the group to sing Billie Holiday standards God Bless the Child and All of Me.

Professor Hopkin has been succeeded at London South Bank by Martin Earwicker, formerly director of the National Museum of Science and Industry family of museums.
