Even in small quantities, it can cause death by inhalation. Prolonged exposure to this chemical compound in its solid form causes severe tissue damage. In its gaseous form, it can cause burns.

An online campaign is now under way to highlight the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO). But campaigners should beware: DHMO masquerades under several other monikers including hydrogen hydroxide, hydronium hydroxide and, most commonly, water.
