The tiny tots of Nottingham University mature students had a surprise at the launch of a day nursery this week. There to join them was vice chancellor Colin Campbell. The university says he was there to give the next generation a personal welcome but Antithesis wonders whether he wasn't a bit taken with the activity plan: "finger play with oatmeal, jelly, soft rice, water and finger paints". And for the slightly older: "taking part in decision-making, planning and . . . taking responsibility for themselves and others, which includes setting up and tidying up after their games."
