Dear Colleagues,
First of all let me thank all of you for your confidence expressed in such a warm and friendly way: I will do my best to deserve it. Following the request of some of you I asked the CSO Secretariat to distribute the text of my statement containing the main objectives that I proposed to the CSO for the 2004-2007 period.
As you know I have to propose to you next May a list of 5 names for the JAF Group: 2 of them lasting 1 year, 2 of them lasting 2 years and 1 of them lasting 3 years. I do not think that this exercise could be suggested to anybody as a means to acquire popularity in the Committee. But since the CSO so decided it is my first duty to do it. You also know that (whatever the rules for appointing them will be) 2 members will have to be appointed in May 2005 and 2 in May 2006: all of them lasting 3 years.
Consequently, I ask you to send me by e-mail by the 20th of next March at the latest proposals for candidates for the JAF Group. In the proposal it should be clearly stated: the date in which you would like to start (May 2004, May 2005, May 2006) and in the case of May 2004 the proposed duration (1 year, 2 years, 3 years).
I already expressed my opinion that the main task of the JAF Group should be that of making the life of the CSO easier. I also would like to remind you that being a member of the JAF Group is a demanding task: he/she will be expected to participate in at least 6 meetings each year (3 CSO meetings and 3 JAF meetings) and to dedicate at home part of his/her time to carry out the tasks assigned.
A challenging period is ahead of us but with your help and dedication I am confident that the COST CSO will be able to reach its objectives.
