CORDIS begins the move to a new information infrastructure

CORDIS, the European Community's Research and Development Information Service, has begun moving its services to a new integrated environment.

Until now, CORDIS web pages and database records have existed in different systems. The new technical architecture will integrate all this information into one database. The simplified infrastructure will increase the power of users to retrieve information and create a robust platform for developing new services in the future.

This radical overhaul is progressively taking place 'behind the scenes', but a number of new features are now visible to users. The new integrated search service has been online for user testing and comment since July, and has now replaced the old search facility. It offers a quick and easy way to find information from more than 40,000 web pages, 285,000 database records and thousands of documents. It is able to search by type of information, for example funding opportunities, exploitable results, events or partners. Search results are displayed in a list and can be classified in order of date or relevance.

Managing RAPIDUS and Quick Pick profiles is now easier than before. All profiles are available to view, edit and delete through one single, intuitive interface. Quick Pick selection options are still in the process of migration and should be completed shortly.

Users registering for the first time will be presented with a user friendlier interface, while registered users will be asked to re-activate their CORDIS account when logging on to the new system for the first time. Forthcoming new features for all registered users will include a fast and simple password reminder facility, as well as the ability to view and update user account details - including passwords.

CORDIS will continue to provide updates on the progressive move to the new environment, which will help both newcomers and experienced users alike to benefit even more from the wealth of CORDIS information. Feedback can be sent to the address below, and will be used to assist CORDIS in further developing this new platform. Feedback can be sent to: E-mail: qa@cordis.lu?subject=post_beta_03
