The European Commission's DG Research has launched a new website called 'Biosociety', an online resource and information portal for life scientists, other experts and the general public.

The website intends to promote interactions between biotech researchers, social scientists, economists and ethical experts active within the life sciences. It will also inform European citizens about relevant policies and ongoing activities in the field, and provide a forum for debate and dialogue.

One of the features of the website is a Bioforum, where specialists and generalists can exchange views and experiences on topical biotech issues. The current question for debate is: how can life sciences and biotech help meet European society's health, environmental and economic needs?

Another resource on the site is a searchable database of experts, intended to help those working or interested in the biotechnology sector to identify and network with specialists in the biotech field.

Other sections include a resource library of biotech related documents, an area devoted to bioethical issues, and information on current European policies relating to biotechnology.

An introduction to the biotechnology related projects funded under the Community framework programmes for research will also be appearing online soon. To visit the Biosociety website, please follow the following link: ciety/index_en.htm
