Commission issues call for tender for comparative study of vines

七月 26, 2002

Brussels, 25 July 2002

The European Commission's Agriculture DG has issued a call for tenders for a study on the use of different varieties of interspecific vines.

The aim of the study is to examine on the basis of the existing literature whether, from a scientific point of view, the use of interspecific varieties allows for a reduction in the use of plant protection products and whether the quality of the wine produced is of the same level as that obtained from traditional varieties in their natural habitat. The economic effects of the use of interspecific varieties on the Community market must also be examined.

The study will focus on the examination of the environmental impact, the impact on the quality of the product and the economic consequences of the use of interspecific varieties on the Community market, taking into account all the scientific elements in order to provide a basis for decision.
