Chickening out of China

Strathclyde University is facing an international marketing quandary.

It wants to become better known in China. However, principal Andrew Hamnett revealed that a transliteration of Strathclyde University into Chinese translates as "Chop Chicken University".

It is catchy, the univer-sity admitted, but it does not capture the breadth of what Scotland's third largest university - which gained its Royal Charter in 1964 - has to offer.
