Jetlag could be confined to a past time zone after researchers found a way to reset and restart the body clocks of laboratory mice. Teams from the universities of Cambridge and Manchester, funded by the Medical Research Council and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, collaborated with the drug company Pfizer to find a substance able to control a key molecule involved in maintaining mammals' circadian clocks. The researchers hope the drug can be used to combat jetlag, the impact of shift work and certain psychological disorders associated with disrupted circadian rhythms.
