Call for proposals in the area of 'new and emerging science and technology' (NEST)

The European Commission has published a call for proposals in the area of 'new and emerging science and technology' (NEST) under the Sixth Framework Programme's 'anticipating scientific and technological needs activity'. This is one of the areas covered by the 'Integrating and strengthening the European Research Area' specific programme for research, technological development and demonstration.

The areas covered by this call are:


- ADVENTURE projects in emerging areas of knowledge and on future technologies, in particular in multidisciplinary fields, which is highly innovative and involves high (technical) risks;
- INSIGHT projects aimed at assessing new discoveries and newly-observed phenomena, which may indicate important potential problems or risks to society;
- PATHFINDER initiatives which are larger-scale actions, focusing on emerging areas of science and technology that are identified, in conjunction with the scientific community, as having particular promise and/or urgency.

In specifying the instruments to be used in these areas, the call requests the use of specific targeted research projects (STREPs), coordination actions, (CAs) and specific support actions (SSAs). Proposers are advised to consult the full call text at the address below in order to find out the particular instruments requested for each area.

The total indicative budget for this call is 28 million euro.
