The trials and tribulations facing Britain's bee population were discussed at a "bee summit" at the University of Sussex last week. About 50 delegates, including farmers and business representatives, met with researchers from Sussex's Laboratory of Apiculture and Social Insects on 28 April. The focus of the event was on the diminishing number of honeybees in the UK, with sessions on the effect of changes in agriculture and land-management techniques. Individual bees were marked, as in this picture, so that they could be tracked as they went about their business, including foraging and pollinating.
