British Library chief takes the high road

(Photograph) - Brian Lang, former chief executive and deputy chairman of the British Library, has been appointed principal of St Andrews University. He will take up the post on January 1, succeeding Struther Arnott, who retired in December 1999.

Dr Lang (below) is expected to work closely with Sir Alan Langlands, chief executive of the National Health Service executive in England, who takes over the principalship of Dundee University in September. The two universities recently announced ambitious collaboration plans in teaching and research.
