Bolton Institute chiefs are hoping a meeting last month with ministers will lead to a "useful compromise" over their application for a university title. Education and employment secretary David Blunkett is considering the application in the light of the Quality Assurance Agency's recommendation that he should advise the Privy Council against granting the title. The institute hopes a compromise, such as a reduction in the waiting time for re-application from three years to six months, might be acceptable.
