Stirling University had the excitement of hosting Sunday's premi re of Braveheart, the biopic of Scottish patriot William Wallace.

The sight of a galaxy of stars, including Mel Gibson in full Highland dress, clearly stirred the blood of thousands of spectators, and also had an impact on the British Blood Transfusion Service, which was simultaneously holding its annual conference at the university.

When the university discovered that 20th Century Fox was planning to take over its MacRobert Arts Centre and Logie Lecture Theatre for the screening, it was obliged to decant the transfusion service into four swiftly built temporary auditoria in its sports centre.
