Blood from First Nations people destroyed

A geneticist has agreed to destroy samples of blood he drew from a Canadian tribe in the early 1980s.

Richard Ward, who is now at Oxford University, had been given permission to draw samples from 900 members of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council in western Canada. He was studying an arthritis problem affecting the First Nations group.

The natives were upset that the samples have since been used for other research purposes and demanded that they be destroyed.
