A scientific publisher, a biotechnology website and an industry association have banded together to offer biotech firms a matchmaking service that will help them locate industrial and financial partners.

The newly established Cordia Partnering Forum promises to help biotechnology companies tap into the additional technical and financial resources they require to stay competitive. "[The] forum is a unique opportunity to access an audience of leaders and decision-makers within the biotech/pharma industry and investor community," Cordia's organisers promise.

Cordia – which is co-sponsored by scientific publishing house Elsevier and online bio-partnering forum Pharmalicensing – has been accepting applications from prospective biotech firms since mid-September.

"Applications are open to a broad range of companies, from start-ups to quoted groups, across therapeutic areas and technologies," Cordia notes. However, pride of place is reserved to 72 'best-in-class' firms which will be offered the opportunity (for a €500 additional fee) to exhibit their company at the upcoming EuropaBio conference in December.

Unconventional convention

EuropaBio – which takes place in Vienna, Austria, between 2 and 4 December – promises to be a "first of its kind" gathering. "[It] is the first pan-European biotechnology conference specifically tailored for the biotechnology sector. Through partnering, networking and exhibitions, it will explore and influence the issues impacting on bioscience growth across Europe," the conference's website explains.

"[EuropaBio] will be an opportunity to showcase science and technology innovations, as well as providing the European industry with an unprecedented critical mass for learning, networking and doing business," it adds.

Representing 35 member companies and 22 national biotechnology associations with more than 1 200 SME members, the European Association for Bioindustries, also known as EuropaBio, will be organising the conference. Technomark, a specialist life science consulting and investment group, and Reed Exhibitions, a leading event organiser, will also be co-organising the event.
