Bett welcomed north of border

Unions want all to share pay rises.

The Educational Institute of Scotland has welcomed the Bett proposals as ending a negotiating anomaly for Scotland's new universities, which operate outside the Universities and Colleges Employers Association.

The EIS-University Lecturers' Association recently condemned proposals for new contracts from Scotland's conference of centrally funded colleges, warning that it appeared to be turning its back on national negotiations.

The EIS-ULA praised Bett for its commitment to collective bargaining and for recommending councils to represent employers and staff throughout Britain.

Its Bett response says: "This proposal will require the employer forum of the new university sector in Scotland to abandon its current arrangement and join all other higher education employers in the UK council."

The EIS-ULA said it looks forward to working with the AUT and Natfhe.
