Belgrade University students and Serbian police marched together this week to demand that President Milosevic return the "stolen" presidential election to Vojislav Kostunica, who claims 52 per cent of the vote. Other police units, however, turned back students trying to march on Mr Milosevic's residence, while pro-Milosevic soldiers and police prevented striking miners from joining several thousand students and academics at Belgrade University's philosophy faculty to sign a declaration of solidarity. At the faculty of engineering, dean Vlado Teodosic refused to accept a written strike call from the students, who then promptly climbed through the windows and occupied the building.
