Baroness Perry calls for universities to have the right to set their own fees

Baroness Perry, former vice-chancellor of South Bank University and now president of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge, has called for universities to have the right to set their own fees, writes Olga Wojtas.

Giving the Alexander Stone lecture in rhetoric at Strathclyde University this week, Lady Perry said universities in the United Kingdom were being asked to compete in an international market "with their hands firmly tied behind their backs" because of the lack of funding.
