The Thai cabinet has approved new funding of Baht464 million (£6,776,000) for research and development of biotechnology projects, to be administered through the National Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and the Kasetsart University. It will encourage research that could improve the production of rice, shrimps and cassava, as well as studies of the human genome.
