Artist Alicia Felberbaum's video Fading is part of the "Textures of Memory: the Poetics of Cloth" touring exhibition that links with her award-winning website.
Felberbaum has used internet technology to create a project that explores the evolving language of the web.
Ms Felberbaum explored some of the themes of the project in a lecture this week at Goldsmiths College, London, where she was an MA student. The project, "Holes Linings Threads", has been organised to coincide with the exhibition, at Pitshanger Manor and Gallery in Ealing, London.
The project won the Transmediale International Film & Video Festival website prize.
"As a former weaver I was interested and familiar with the manufacture of cloth, its cultural and political weight in the history of ancient and contemporary societies," she said.
"I had to learn the new tools the net provided me with to transmit a message, as in any other art form.
"The differences here were related to the net's own language formations. The way in which subjects and information can be structured, and the way in which this information can be received and distributed.
"Digital art is a medium with its own properties, where art and technology merge."
Ms Felberbaum interviewed local weavers for source material. She said: "These personal stories, incidents and experiences relate to issues affecting women in the workplace, local history and manufacturing in decline.
"Through the interviews I saw reflected how technology was affecting and changing their lives."
"Holes Linings Threads" was developed as part of "The Future Looms" - a commission for a collaborative public internet project initiated by Pavilion in Leeds and Iris, Women's Photography Project at Staffordshire University, in partnership with Channel/Artec, in London.
"Textures of Memory: the Poetics of Cloth" is at Pitshanger Manor and Gallery until February 20.
