The fetid world of reshuffling politicians was made a little less complex this week by alumnus to be proud of No 183. Sir Thomas Legg, whose report on the arming of Sierra Leone has led to no political embar-rassment at all, was at school in New York and Surrey, read law at St John's College, Cambridge, and is on the board of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and the council of Brunel University. But he presumably learnt most of what he knows about clandestine warfare in the much less ruthless world of the Royal Marines 45 Commando, where he spent the years 1953-55.
