Antibodies bring cancer treatment hope

RESEARCH from Nottingham University's pharmaceutical sciences department has led to a bladder cancer treatment breakthrough.Scientists have developed antibodies that attack malignant tumours. The antibodies' potent radioactive atoms means they can be used to deliver short-range beta radiation to tumours. Targeted radiotherapy avoids the unpleasant side-effects of powerful drug treatments. It is hoped similar methods to treat other cancer types will follow.
