Academics waiting anxiously for the quality of their research to be judged in next year's research assessment exercise will no doubt be expecting exacting standards from the organisers.

So it was with alarm that Peep learnt that art and design panel member Anne Boddington had been wrongly listed on the RAE website as a "professor" when she is simply a "Ms" - a fact she said she had repeatedly pointed out by e-mail and phone, to no avail.

The English funding council told Peep that this was an "administrative error" and that it "strives to maintain the highest standards of accuracy".
