An end to injustice

七月 26, 1996

Peter Knight, once the enfant terrible of higher education, shows distinct signs of joining the establishment (THES, July 19).

I trust Brian Fender will give his item scant attention and despatch it to the shredding bin with old Higher Education Funding Council circulars.

The proposed new funding methodology for teaching bravely tackles some of the many gross inequities in the present system, of which the huge range of funds provided across the country for similar academic provision is perhaps the most indefensible.

The author may well be content to use the Dearing Committee as an excuse to delay the Waterloo for those universities historically dealt a decent hand. I doubt he is alone. For the rest of us, and our many local students, any delay in commencing the correction of these grave injustices would be beyond the bounds of reasonableness.
