六月 7, 2002

A Birmingham University research fellow is reported to be on hunger strike in an Israeli jail after being detained at a Palestinian refugee camp. The university confirmed that it was investigating claims that Josie Sandercock, who works in the public health and epidemiology department, had been detained by Israeli authorities while taking part in a peace protest.

A university spokesman said: "Naturally, we are concerned to hear of Josie's situation and we are seeking further information as to the exact circumstances."

Ms Sandercock is reported to have told friends that she was being held without charge at a prison near Tel Aviv after being detained at the weekend.
