Fancy a lectureship in the Caribbean? As the chill and darkness of winter descends on campuses up and down the country, here is an opportunity for academic life in much warmer, exotic climes.
Due to rising student numbers, the University of the West Indies at St Augustine, Trinidad, is recruiting globally. Ten new posts in the faculty of humanities and education are advertised this week in The Times Higher .
These are mostly lectureships in education: teaching mathematics, English language arts, science, technology, social studies and business. The university is also seeking a lecturer in curriculum and teacher education, as well as a French foreign language instructor.
Salaries start at TT$140,000 (£11,600), but the cost of living is low. And according to a spokeswoman, the university has a number of schemes to help candidates find accommodation.
About half the teaching staff are local, with the rest coming from around the world.
The institution was set up in 1948 as "a university college in special relationship with the University of London", and became independent in 1962. It serves 15 West Indies countries and is based on three campuses - Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.
The deadline for applications is January 14.
