£1.5m bid to build on research success

Two London universities are launching major recruitment drives and are looking to appoint more than 40 academic staff.

In this week's Times Higher , Royal Holloway, University of London, is advertising for 20 academic posts.

The university, in Egham, Surrey, is advertising for professors, lecturers and readers across its three faculties of arts, science, and history and social science, and says it will spend £1.5 million on staff recruitment in the next year.

Stephen Hill, its principal, said: "We are reflecting the success of our Management School, with subjects including corporate social responsibility and international business.

"We are also building on existing research areas, particularly physics, information security and drama and music, and are trying to cope with demand for our successful creative writing courses, headed by Poet Laureate Andrew Motion."

Meanwhile, Queen Mary , University of London, is offering 25 posts in the arts, humanities, law and social sciences. These range from lecturer to professor, and include three chairs in the school of business and management, two English lecturers, and a lecturer in the history of the US.
