So. Farewell then, Nigel...

八月 6, 2015

It must be a great relief at Swansea University’s School of Management that Nigel Piercy has resigned as dean (The week in higher education, 30 July). But the bigger question is why did the vice-chancellor allow this type of behaviour to continue for so long? Is it the market-based system in which UK higher education finds itself that encourages this uncaring, metrics-driven type of management? It is just a shame for all those staff and students who have had their careers and study programmes disrupted because of this great experiment in managerialism. Let’s hope other universities can learn from Swansea’s mistakes.
