Who let down whom in dispute? 4

十月 13, 2006

In getting a negotiated contract at London Metropolitan University, lecturers scored a victory over an intransigent management that caused other such managements to think twice. To publicly suggest that the University and College Union let people down is giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

I was responsible for organising the academic boycott during the dispute. In addition to the magnificent support we received from the ordinary members of both academic unions, the Natfhe bureau-cracy gave us excellent politi-cal and organisational support, while allowing us to control our own dispute.

Given that most UCU members are capable of differentiating between fine words and effective actions, I have not the slightest doubt that Roger Kline will win the forthcoming elections.
