Save our service

二月 11, 2005

I am writing to express the deep concerns of the library profession in Wales about the proposal to abolish nine out of 13 library posts at the University of Wales, Bangor. If implemented, it will leave Bangor with four qualified librarians to serve more than 8,000 students.

These cuts will diminish students' learning experience and endanger Bangor's pioneering work in library collaboration, a role noted by the Welsh Assembly Government. We recognise the need for financial stability and are not suggesting that the service should be immune from cuts. But we implore Bangor to consider less damaging ways to make library savings.
