The figure provided by the Higher Education Statistics Agency for the pay of senior lecturers/lecturers does not reflect the true position at the University of Oxford because it does not include payments to university academics by the colleges. This means that the average listed is below the real minimum.
Oxford has a single lecturer scale, and all lecturers benefit from automatic incremental progression to national spine point 52 (currently £52,682, before this year's double salary increase), higher than elsewhere in the sector. This figure comprises varying combinations of university and college contributions, and most of our lecturers are on that top point. In addition, lecturers holding tutorial fellowships at a college will typically receive a further £7,000 in college allowances.
