Penn State of redress

十二月 8, 2011

"Say it ain't so, Joe: US sector's pact with the drop-kick devil" (24 November), your article on the domination of many US universities by sport and its financial clout, offers little that is new. However, as an alumnus of Pennsylvania State University, I was stirred to write by the article's claim that the Penn State community was more concerned about the firing of legendary American football coach Joe Paterno than the issues surrounding the child sex abuse scandal that the institution is currently dealing with.

Nothing could be further from the truth if my own experiences are anything to go by. All the alumni communications sent to me have been focused solely on getting the university back on track and apologising for such awful misdeeds.

I fully support Penn State in its efforts and wish it well in its recovery.
