No secrets here

Your article "Inquiry as 'shoddy' thesis wins PhD" ( THES , August 23), contains some basic errors. Your reporter states that "the University of Wales kept the events secret until this year when documents detailing the plagiarism were acquired by the Campaign for Academic Freedom and Academic Standards, which called for an investigation". Until The Sunday Times published its article in May, the University of Wales had no knowledge of the case. Steps have now been taken to inquire into the situation.

Cafas will not be submitting evidence to the inquiry but has called "for a member of the Welsh Assembly's education committee to be included on the inquiry panel".
