Links with Africa better than aid 3

七月 8, 2005

Live8 may have been a great pop concert but surely more could be done by UK universities to encourage African politicians to participate in education that has a good measure of moral philosophy, democracy and human rights.

Progress is more likely to be made fighting poverty in the developing world through education, which fosters stability, equality and civil liberties, as well as wealth generation, than through other externally imposed measures.

We in higher education should be pressuring the Government to encourage African leaders to engage in leadership training for social and economic growth, which should be delivered jointly in developing countries and here.
